Distracted Driver

Houston Distracted Driver Bicycle Accident Lawyer Reshard Alexander and Houston Bicycle Accident Law Firm RJ Alexander Law PLLC

Distracted driving is becoming one of the most dangerous behaviors for the safety of all vehicles. However, cyclists are impacted to a much great extent than all other modes of transportation. This because bicycles do not travel at the same speed of other vehicles, but in fact share the road. Accordingly, all other vehicles must notice and avoid striking a cycle. Studies have shown that approximately 80% of all cycling accidents could have been avoided. This means that it is critical that the drivers of all vehicles give their full attention to the road in front of them and not the phone in their hand. As a cyclist, you must do everything you can to increase the likelihood that the vehicle will see you. This includes wearing the proper reflective clothes, using lights and of wearing fluorescent colors.

Unfortunately, even if you are doing everything right, a motorist may still drive recklessly. A bicycle is no match for a car, truck, or SUV. Many motorists do no understand that cyclists have the right to share the road. Knowingly or unknowingly, motorists bully cyclists. Keep in mind to never trust that you made “eye contact” with the driver of a vehicle. Many times, what you are looking at is really a blank stare.
