The Houston Police Department says an officer was involved in a fatal accident with a bicyclist on the southeast side of Houston on April 23, 2015 approximately at 4:20 AM. The accident happened on MLK Jr Boulevard near Reed road. A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the Houston Police Department patrol car was heading westbound when the cyclist went through a red light imported from the officer in the middle the intersection.
The officer swerved to try and avoid the biker, but it was too late. He struck the bike and then crash into fence. The officer suffered some minor cuts was not taken to the hospital, Houston police said.
A witness to the crash, said he also had a green light.
